English Countryside

As you enter the English countryside you will enter a region of outstanding scenery and gentle hills (‘wolds’) with delightful cottages and manor houses, typically English villages with charming names and historic market towns.

See villages with such quaint names as Shipton-under-Wychwood, Upper and Lower Slaughter, as well as Stow-on- the-Wold and Broadway, famous for their antique shops.

Not all villages are well known, and today many still hold their secrets. Amongst the treasures to be found are perhaps a hidden village off the beaten track, perhaps Painswick, Biddestone, Winchcombe or Woodstock, or an unspoilt historic church, such as at Northleach often called the “Cathedral of the Cotswolds” – open the church door and you will discover a hidden world of history.

Enjoy lunch at an ancient pub or maybe a traditional afternoon tea in one of the pretty village tea shops. You may choose on the day to visit one of the country’s greatest gardens or an unspoilt historic church.
